Immerse yourself in Puerto Rico’s rich cultural heritage with an authentic Bomba dance class by the ocean. Learn the rhythms, movements, and history of this powerful Afro-Puerto Rican tradition in a lively beachfront setting at SANDBOX in Condado.

Whether you’re a beginner or experienced dancer, this interactive class invites you to connect with the drum, the dancer, and the energy of the island in a fun and welcoming environment.

 Will guests need to bring anything to the experience?

• Mosquito repellent
• Something to cover up in case it gets chilly
• Comfortable shoes (avoid flip-flops)
• Breathable clothes that allow free movement
• Phones fully charged for photos and videos

• No experience or dance partner necessary
• All ages welcome
•  Please dress comfortably for a beachside evening (light clothing recommended).
• The location is open to the public and may attract spectators enjoying the music and dance.
  Parking nearby; Uber recommended.

José A. Catalá – Certified artisan, musician, and Bomba instructor with over 40 years of experience. Trained under master José Emmanuelli, he later dedicated himself fully to folklore and cultural education, becoming a respected master in his own right. Today, he promotes Afro-Caribbean traditions through Bomba dance and percussion workshops, sharing knowledge, history, and passion with every group.

Leslie “Yumi” Pouerie – Multidisciplinary artist, educator, and dancer from Santurce, Puerto Rico. With classical training and deep roots in Afro-Caribbean traditions, she blends music, movement, and culture into a powerful and engaging experience. She leads most classes, sharing Bomba and Caribbean rhythms with passion and soul.

Charlotte Serrano Pagán – Professional dancer from Puerto Rico with over 20 years of experience in multiple dance styles. She was also trained under master José Emmanuelli, whose teachings—alongside Catalá—helped shape her knowledge, technique, and deep connection to Puerto Rican folklore.
